Proudly human employer
Most prices on theDeals.co.za are recorded by our own software, every day. Some shops do not let software read their prices. For those, we pay people to collect the prices any shopper can see, by hand.
What they do
They open the shop's public pages in a normal web browser, page by page, as any shopper would. On each page they click our small add-on, which saves the products and prices that are on the screen. Today this covers the online prices of Checkers Sixty60 and Shoprite in South Africa.
The rules they follow
- Only prices any visitor can see. They never log in, never use a loyalty card, and never choose a store or a delivery address, so the price is the shop's default online price.
- No software doing the browsing, no tricks to get past a shop's security checks. If a shop blocks them or shows no prices, they stop and tell us.
- Nothing personal is collected.
How we use their prices
Every price a person collects is marked "checked by a person" on the site, with the day it was seen. Before it is shown, it is checked against the prices we already hold, and anything that looks wrong is held back. Like every price we record, it is never changed afterwards.
Fair pay
We pay per product collected, through a freelance platform, and agree the rate with each person before they start. We do not publish their names.
